Prairie Poet
Welcome to rhythms of the prairie.
Welcome! Inside you will find rhythms and stories of the prairie and all that is dear to her and our other mother...Mother Earth. These lyrics address the characters of the prairie, issues of the land, water and sky that is so precious to us all. Our stories will explore mankinds relationship to the animals and nature as a whole and examine the stewardship we have been appointed with. I hope that this site will be both informative and entertaining. My greatest hope is that the rhythms and lyrics will give the reader pause to reflect.
Lessons from the past
The American bison or buffalo brushed extinction in the late 1800's, result of the buffalo hunters. Now the buffalo has made a comeback due to efforts of a few. However, we were almost too late. "Give me a home where the buffalo roam, sings so easily" "I guess we'll say we're sorry, homeless we all shall be". (Excerpt from "Dear Buffalo".
Our Fragile Future
Our relationship and stewardship with our Mother Earth is soon to come to bear. Have we been good stewards? Time is ever marching and the answer may come sooner than we expect.
"The manatess of the gulf
are floating on the top
The rise in the sea level
gave demise to their crop
Just another victim my friend
of the global warming trend."
Excerpt from "Another Victim My Friend".
